Backing into a parking space can be stressful, but it can be a breeze with the proper technique. Below, your Porsche Dealership has provided five tips to help you parallel park with ease if your not using the built-in park assist.

5 Tips To Parallel Park Your Porsche From Your Porsche Dealership

1. Find a Spacious Parking Spot

To begin with, you should locate a parking space that is large enough to accommodate your car. Make sure that the space is at least one-and-a-half times the length of your vehicle so that reversing into it is easy. When you locate the ideal parking space, turn on your turn signal to indicate to other drivers that you intend to park your vehicle.

2. Check Your Side and Rearview Mirrors

Drive up next to the parked car in front of the space where you want to park and position your car about three feet away. Look in your side and rearview mirrors for traffic from behind and in adjacent lanes to ensure the coast is clear before reversing to avoid a collision. Shift into reverse gear once you are confident there is no traffic, and it’s safe.

3. Reverse Cautiously

When backing into a parking space, going at your own pace is important. Don’t allow other drivers to pressure you into hurrying. Slowly and cautiously reverse back, taking the time you need. Keep backing up slowly until the middle of your car is in line with the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of the space where you want to park your car.

4. Position Your Car in the Center of the Space

Once it’s safe, turn your steering wheel towards the curb and reverse cautiously into the parking space. As you reverse, keep an eye on the back bumper of the car in front and watch the car’s headlights behind you.

Once the front door of your car passes the bumper of the vehicle in front of you, straighten your wheels by turning the steering wheel. When your car passes the other vehicle’s bumper, turn your wheels in the opposite direction and back up slowly toward the center of the space.

5. Make the Necessary Adjustments

You’re almost done parking! Ideally, you should place your car in the center of the space and 12 to 18 inches away from the curb. To achieve that, look in your rearview mirror to check how close you are to the car behind you. If you need to adjust your position by inching forward or backward, don’t worry. Placing your vehicle in the center of the parking space will ensure you and other drivers have enough room to maneuver easily.

Great job! You successfully reversed into a parking spot without any trouble. If you’re still anxious, remember that the more you practice, the easier it will become. Visit Porsche Monmouth in West Long Branch, NJ, today for outstanding service and customer support.
