Top 4 Signs Your Car May Need a Radiator RepairWhen you need a radiator repair, you should consider your situation an emergency. You can’t drive without a working radiator, and if you do, then you’re going to need further repairs afterward. Driving with a faulty radiator can severely damage your vehicle, so please come in as soon as possible to get your radiator fixed. Here are 4 signs that indicate your car may need a radiator repair.

1. You’re Overheating

Your temperature gauge will tell you if you’re about to overheat. It’ll be constantly pointing to hot, so try to keep an eye on that at all times. If it’s pointing to hot and it won’t budge, then you should pull over, call a tow truck, and call the dealership to let them know you’re coming. Something is wrong with your radiator, and you need to get that checked out immediately.

If you don’t notice the issue early, then you could be in for some costly repairs. Your vehicle will severely overheat, and you’ll notice steam coming out from under the hood. You might also notice smoke instead of steam. You really don’t want to get to the point that smoke is coming out from under the hood. Parts of your engine can melt if the engine gets too hot, and that’s the kind of damage that can get extremely expensive rapidly.

2. Discolored Radiator

If your system has a leak somewhere, then the coolant from your radiator will squirt out and land on the hot engine and radiator parts. The vast temperature difference between the coolant and the parts means that the coolant quickly evaporates. When the coolant evaporates, it leaves a spot of discoloration behind. This discolored area will eventually start rusting.

If you notice the discolored or rusty spots, then you know that something is wrong with your vehicle. It should be safe enough to drive if the temperature gauge isn’t pointing to hot, but you should take the vehicle to the dealer as soon as you can.

3. Coolant Pooling

Coolant pooling near your vehicle is another sign of a leak, only this is a bigger leak. The coolant pool will usually be bright green, but it may be bright yellow or pink. This pool is a sign that you need to get to the dealer right away. You may be able to drive there, but if you’re worried, you should get towed.

Clean up the coolant before you leave, as coolant is toxic to animals. The sweet smell of the fluid can easily attract local pets and wildlife, and you want to ensure that they don’t get anywhere near the spilled coolant.

4. Coolant Level Dropping

You may not have a constant leak, but something is definitely wrong in your vehicle if your coolant level is dropping fast. If you notice that the coolant level is much lower than it should be, then you need to get to a dealer. The technicians will find the source of the fault, and they’ll fix it promptly.
