Did you know that the correct tire pressure can save you money? If you regularly check your vehicle’s tire pressure and ensure that the tires are inflated to the proper PSI, you will save a bundle on fuel and tire replacements. The following easy steps from your Porsche dealer will show you how to check tire pressure and ensure that they are inflated to the correct tire pressure levels.

How to Check Your Tire Pressure_Porsche Monmouth

Wait for Your Tires to Cool Down

It is essential to check pressure levels when the tires are cold. If the tires are hot, it will influence the reading. It’s best to wait approximately three hours after you’ve driven your car for the tires to cool down before you check the PSI.

Write Down the Recommended PSI

You will find the tire pressure information on the inside of your passenger door or in your owner’s manual. Some cars have different pressure levels for the front and rear tires. If the pressure levels between the tires are different, write down the PSI for each tire.

Use a Tire Pressure Gauge

You can use a digital or an analog tire pressure gauge to check tire pressure. There are analog tire pressure gauges with dial faces that point to the pressure reading, gauges with a bar that will indicate the pressure level, and ones with a marked stick. We recommend a battery-powered digital tire pressure gauge that is easy to use and displays a digital reading.

Check the Tire Pressure Levels

Keep the piece of paper with the correct tire pressure levels handy. Pick any tire on your car and remove the valve cap. Press a digital or analog tire pressure gauge firmly onto the valve stem and wait for the reading. Write the reading down next to the correct tire pressure level on your piece of paper. If the tire is inflated to the proper level, you can replace the valve cap. Repeat the process until you’ve checked the pressure on all four tires.

Inflate or Deflate the TiresĀ

Check the pressure readings you wrote down against the correct PSI for each tire. If you notice that pressure is lower than the recommended PSI, inflate the tire to the proper level by firmly pressing an air compressor nozzle onto the tire air valve to seal it tightly. Hold the nozzle in place for 30 seconds and recheck the reading. If necessary, add air to reach the required PSI.

If the tire is underinflated, use your tire pressure gauge and press down on the metal pin in the valve stem to release air. Do this in short bursts and check the pressure level regularly until the correct pressure level is reached. You can then replace the valve cap.
